Trekking in the Mustang Region
Mustang, the 'Forbidden Kingdom of Lomanthang ,' is a place so unique in geographical, historical and cultural terms that it has been under special protections of the Gorvernment of Nepal since 1992. You will experience an unforgettable adventure to the only frontier of Nepal that can be likened to a desert in the middle of mountains, a barren valley with eroded canyons and the small kingdom with its own king but isolated from modern civilisation.
Mustang was once an independent kingdom but was closely tied by language and culture to Tibet. During the period between 15th and 17th century, its strategic location granted Mustang control over the trade between the Himalayas and India. At the end of the 18th century the kingdom was annexed by Nepal.
