Trekking in the Langtang Region

The Langtang region was declared the Himalayan National Park of Nepal in 1971 and is inhabited by about 5000 Tamangs and Sherpas. With temperate and sub-alpine vegetation, wildlife comprised of migratory birds, deer, monkey, Tahr and Pika, this is indeed a fascinating trekking region. The region is not very developed and therefore choices for ‘luxury’ accommodation are limited in this region and most trekkers stay in tents, teahouses and local homes.

The major highlights of the Langtang area besides the Langtang Valley itself are Gosaikunda (a magnificent glacial lake, also a sacred Hindu shrine), Helambu, Syabrubesi and several peaks including Langtang, Kimshun, Lirung, Ghengu Liru, Jugal, Dorjee Lakpa and the trekking peak Chergo Ri.

Helambu Trekking

The Helambu trek is perfect if you are short on time but don’t want miss out on the Himalayan experience. The Helembu valley is situated about 72 kms northeast of Kathmandu and is highly acclaimed for the scenic grandeur and pleasant climate it offers. The Helambu region extends to the famous Gosainkunda Lake and the lower slopes of Jugal Himal. There are several highland Tamang and Sherpa villages, scattered on both sides of the Malemchi Khola in this very region
